Biographical Sketch


Educational Background:

Nursing school at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.  1972

Graduate school at Emory University, Major in Maternal-Child Nursing. Master’s in Nursing degree. 1974

While on the faculty at the Medical College of Virginia she completed the OB–GYN Nurse Practitioner Program. 1979  Passed National Certification Exam.

 

Present Positions:

President and Founder of a non-profit organization called The Women’s Information Network, Inc  (WIN) The mission statement of WIN is “To educate, nurture, and network women about health through information and interaction.” 1991 to present.

New Horizons Treatment Center:  Nursing Supervisor, Jan/08-present.

Clinical Faculty:  Mercer University Georgia Baptist College of Nursing part-time, 9/07-12.07.

Clinical Faculty:  Georgia Highlands School of Nursing.  10/07 until present.

Certified DIN educator for Eli Lilly & Company for the MYO, “Managing Your Osteoporosis” program on Forteo.

Project Coordinator for a regional health promotion/health fair for Northwest Georgia entitled Spring Training. 2002- 2007.

Appointed to the Georgia Commission on Women, April 2001 – present.  Serve as Chairman of the Health Committee.

Vice-Chairman for the Georgia Osteoporosis Initiative.  2003 – present.

 

Work Experience:

L& D Unit, Grady Memorial Hospital.  1972 full time. During graduate school, part time.

Taught undergraduate and graduate nursing courses at the Medical College of Virginia, Emory University and Georgia State University. 1974-1990

Private practice with Family Practice & OB-GYN specialists. 1990-1994.  Dr Keith Parmer and Dr. Doug Lawrence.

Founding Executive Director for the Women’s Center at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. 1994-1996.

Developed/implemented workshops for midlife women trademarked  “Midlife Momentum” that focuses on midlife topics in a style similar to Lamaze class.  1998-present.

Created and coordinated a ten-week osteoporosis awareness/education/screening program titled “There’s No Business Like Bone Business.”  2002

** Both health promotion projects presented at the National Wellness Institute, Inc. conference on July17th, 2003.

Nurse Practitioner at the Kennesaw State University student health center from October 2003 through May 2004.  See students for health maintenance, acute illness and some chronic disease management.

1/02- present. Coordinator for establishing and implementing an annual health fair entitled Spring Training which included development of a regional collaborative of over 50 agencies, fund raising, volunteer recruitment, marketing & event promotion.

April 2005-August 2005.  Mammography Coordinator for Bosom Buddies an Affiliate of the Georgia Cancer Foundation. (Filled in for employee on surgical leave.)

August 2005-August 2006.  Executive Director for Affordable Health Care, LLC, a clinic whose mission is “To serve individuals without health insurance or those with high deductibles at the lowest possible cost.”  This position involves establishing a full service family practice clinic, marketing the membership program, coordinating services, hiring and evaluating personnel, seeing patients, program development, the resource center and outreach to the community.

August 2007-December 2007. Adjunct faculty at the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing at Mercer University.  Supervising students for a fundamentals course in the skills lab and clinical facility.

Practitioner Certification Exam.

2003    Outstanding Leadership and Service Award.  Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

2003    Georgia Commission on Women & Georgia Osteoporosis Initiative:
Volunteer Award.

1996    Woman of Excellence Nominee:  Women in Management, Greater Rome     
Chamber of Commerce.

1998    Honoree as a “Georgia Women Pioneer in Health Care:”  
Georgia Women’s History Committee and Georgia Commission on Women

1999    District 7 GNA Nurse of the Year Award.

1999    Appointed by the Governor to the Advisory Committee for the newly 
established Office of Women’s Health.

2001    Appointed by the Governor to the Georgia Commission on Women.
Still serving as Chairman of the Health Committee.

2003    Elected Vice-Chair for the Georgia Osteoporosis Initiative.
